Audience: Effects theory

Passive Audience :  This is the thought that audiences passively take in information from the media and these messages have the same effect on everyone. By this, we mean that the audience take the message from the media they consume. Active Audience:   This is the more present-time idea that the audience actively take role with and make choices regarding the media they consume. By this, we mean that the audience conduct to the media in multiple ways and sometimes take the unplanned message from the media they consume. Hypodermic Needle Theory:  This is the intimation that audiences are always passive and then take the message from the producer as if it was injected into their minds. This assumes no individual difference in audience members.  INFORMATION/SURVEILLANCE :    Learning something that you didn't know before IDENTITY: Personally relating to something  DIVERSION/ENTERTAINMENT: Escapism from your normal life RELATIONSHIPS: Forming relationships with characters or celeb

1) Preferred Reading: This is the message or ideology/ belief the producers want you to go away with eg: a McDonald's burger being shown in an advert is telling us that it is delicious and you cant get it somewhere else. 2) Oppositional reading:   This is when then the consumer takes away an opposite message or ideology/ believe than the producers want you to go away with eg: The McDonald's burger is very unhealthy and fatty. 3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?   The Harry Brown trailer positions the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film by portraying the young people as bad, negative and heavily influenced by violence and it also   positions the audience to the respond to the teenagers as violent, out of control, and in need of someone older to discipline them. Demographics: Age:13+ over Gender: Females 90% female 10% men home: city social class: working class mostly Psychographics: The psychograpics of this magazine cover is the aspirer, the reformer, the succeeder and the mainstream.  These all like to this magazine cover because these come under being 13+ female and what most females would be willing to buy.
