Denotation and connotation

Denotation: In this Advert, I can see a young man and a young woman sailing on a yacht far from reality, casual relationship between pose indicates they are a couple. The woman, who is dressed in all white, is looking directly at the viewer and the man, who is sat behind her,  is just in his own little world. In the background there is a direct representation of the ocean or being out sea. I can see there is also a direct representation of the perfume bottle and that the woman's eyes and the product name are both focal points. Connotation: The sailing is associated with wealth and relaxing on a summer holiday. It expresses the escape from 'real life' and the woman is associated with beauty, purity, youth and upper class lifestyle - meaning transfers onto perfume. The direct eye contact with viewer connotes independence and confidence, on the woman's behalf - meaning transfers to perfume (e.g: a woman who wears the scent can feel confident and of her self). Denotation: In this advert, there is a child on the streets that seems unkempt and trashy. The little boy is staring directly into the camera, and he is wearing clothes that appear stained and dirty. 'Dig toilets, not graves' is the message of this advert and it has a white text colour with bold font. Connotation: The child is presented as a poor and homeless boy because he is in a setting that does not look as protected or warming. We can also learn that he has no family or carers and he doesn't have the money to buy comforting new clothes. This catches the audience's attention as he's looking right at the consumer. This hints that we should be guilty for his health because if he's looking at us it makes us feel guilty for him and he's in trouble so we need to help by donating to WaterAid. The message's meaning behind this advert suggests that if we don't donate to this company, we will be responsible for his life because

This will interest the audience as there is a colour that is thought to represent 'sadness' and this will draw attention and create  apprehension to the audience. The fragment of the boys face connotes that he is beginning to realise that his mistakes have cost a girl her life because he didn't know how to avoid or protect her from danger. Industries: Selena Gomez,  Universal Pictures,  July Moon Productions,  Kicked to the Curb Productions and Anonymous Content worked together to   created this series. This series was o riginally conceived as a film set to be released by Universal Pictures  with Selena Gomez  in the lead role, the adaptation was picked up as a television series by Netflix in late 2015. Audience: This is mainly targeted for people who struggle with depression or who have severe mental i
