Denotation and Connotation

Denotation:
In this advert, there is a child on the streets that seems unkempt and trashy. The little boy is staring directly into the camera, and he is wearing clothes that appear stained and dirty. 'Dig toilets, not graves' is the message of this advert and it has a white text colour with bold font.
Connotation:
The child is presented as a poor and homeless boy because he is in a setting that does not look as protected or warming. We can also learn that he has no family or carers and he doesn't have the money to buy comforting new clothes. This catches the audience's attention as he's looking right at the consumer. This hints that we should be guilty for his health because if he's looking at us it makes us feel guilty for him and he's in trouble so we need to help by donating to WaterAid. The message's meaning behind this advert suggests that if we don't donate to this company, we will be responsible for his life because it could be easily taken away from him.
Analysis:

The message behind this advert it to donate and help so we can save a little boys life not only his but those who are in the same situation and need our help.
