Denotation:
In this film poster there is graffiti written on the wall ' I, Daniel Blake' which indicates its the title of the movie. The man ( Daniel Blake ) Has his fist up in the air and is wearing dirty clothes with a negative facial expression.
Connotation:
This film could have a political message. The Man's clothes are dirty because he could be poor or homeless and he is putting up his fist to represent liberty and freedom. The graffiti sprayed on the wall looks like it was written by the man, due to the writing being in first person and the creativeness. As we know graffiti to be illegal, him writing that on the wall indicates hes a criminal.
Mise-en-scene:
Costume: The man is wearing a a hat (beanie) which indicating he is a stereotype for homeless people. He is doesn't look clean.
Lighting: The lighting is very dim but the same throughout the poster. The only lighting is the the black shadow behind the character.
Actors: The man looks like he is in his late 50's, there is no use of star power as this character is portrayed as a normal unknown character.
Makeup: No makeup is used but the dirt on the character reflects on his background and who he is.
Props: There are no props used in this film poster, the main focus is on the graffiti and actor.
Setting: The setting is in front of a wall with black graffiti on it emphasising the writing.
something that will attract the audience is the plainness of the wall as it's a contrast to the black writing. Also, with a white to black contrast, you can see the messiness of the writing and identify that he wrote it and he is called 'Daniel Blake'
