'Mise-en-scene Stranger Things analysis'

Costume:
The costumes used for each character each give off an 1980s vibe. An instance of this is is reflected on Dustin's costume. Dustin's costume is made up of a baseball cap, a jacket of some sort, jeans, trainers and a shirt (which always has a brand on it). Dustin's outfit alone is a reference to the 80s, but the style that his hair is in is also a very 80s look. All of the characters introduced in the first eight minutes have been made to look like they were in the 80s. The hairstyles suit this trend very well, especially Mike's mum, Mike, Will, Dustin and Nancy. The clothes that they wear are also in a very 1980s style.

Lighting:
In the beginning, the lights flicker on and off  which suggests something bad is happening in that moment of time. They are also dim and weak so the darkness overtakes the light, showing mystery and fear . However, the light is bright enough to help the audience sense who the character is and what he is doing during the moment of the mysterious creature about to attack. This could show that the character is the focus point in that scene which helps the audience to focus him and his actions instead of focusing on the background. This could show horror as we don't know what's really happening due to the darkening and flickering of the lights.

Setting:
Throughout the whole 8 minutes, the settings changes. for example the Laboratory gives off an ominous atmosphere. this is revealed when the lights start flashing in the dark corridors, this adds a suspense of danger and mysteriousness to the scene. this somewhat gives a feel to the the audience that something is very unusual and uncanny.
